Located in a fertile plain irrigated by the River Little Maeander (Kaystros), which runs between the Mount Bozdağlar (Tmolos) in the North and the Mount Aydın (Messogis) in the south, the establishment of a museum in Ödemiş was realized by the donation of a plot owned by the old art collector Mutahhar Başoglu to the Turkish Treasury. The museum was opened in 1987 and was renovated in 2015. There is only one exhibition hall displaying archaeological and ethnographic artefacts and coins covering the periods from the Early Bronze Age up to the Ottoman periods (including). In the Archaeology Section, the finds belonging to Hypaipa (Günlüce), Neikaia (Türkönü), Palaiapolis (Beydağ) and Koloe (Kiraz) ancient cities are exhibited. In the Coins Section various examples of coins dating back to Lydian and Persian periods to the Ottoman period are exhibited and in the Ethnography Section artefacts belonging to the Ottoman and early Republican era are exhibited.
