The Government House, which was started construction in 1926 by Elbistan district governor Osman Bey (Blind Osman), is the first public building built in Elbistan during the Republican Period. The building, which was completed and opened to service by the district governor Gani Bey at the end of 1930, served both as a Government House and Courthouse until 1985. The building, which was functioned as Public Education Center Directorate and Public Library for a short period of time, was allocated to Police Department since 1986 and served as Agile Force Command for a short time. After the restoration works carried out in 2004, it was organized and served as Police Guest House with the approval of the General Directorate of Security.
One of the most important works reflecting the historical beauty of Elbistan, this building was decided to re-function as Elbistan Museum in 2015. The historical and cultural identity of Elbistan was reflected in the museum exhibition works; the architectural texture of the building has been preserved in the most accurate way. At the museum, designed with a modern museology approach, a rich cultural heritage belonging to Elbistan and its surroundings was revealed by addressing the works of Antiquity and Islamic civilizations, as well as the geographical features, economy, industry, culinary culture, ethnographic works, artists and valuable people of the district.
