HISTORY OF IZMIR ART AND SCULPTURE MUSEUM AND GALLERY DIRECTORATE

Izmir Art and Sculpture Museum and Gallery was founded as a gallery in Kültürpark, on September 9, 1952, then moved to its new place in Boulevard of Atatürk. The opening of gallery, as one of first services for Izmir in the field of plastic arts, provided artists opportunity of exhibiting their works and also gave a new breath to the art life of the city with the State exhibitions held in every year and art courses organized for amateurs. Izmir Art and Sculpture Gallery transformed into a museum with the efforts of artist and director Turgut Pura, in 1973.

Museum collection includesworks of outstanding artists from different periods besides works of great artists such as Şeker Ahmet Paşa, Hoca Ali Rıza, Hikmet Onat, İbrahim Çallı.
